Outreach Ministries

These ministries are referred to as the "Outreach Ministries" because, in most cases, they focus on service to people who are not members of our parish - people who are "outside" our parish.
If you are interested in joining any of these minsitries, or desire more information, contact the parish office.

CRS Ambassador

This new ministry (started in the Fall of 2016) brings the work of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) into the parish. By sponsoring various activities which enable our parishioners to respond to the Gospel call, these CRS Ambassadors help us care for those in need by supporting our most vulnerable brothers and sisters overseas.

The Homework Assistance Program is designed to help young students in grades K—12 with their schoolwork. Currently the program is offered on Monday and Wednesday. Participation in HAP is not limited to parishioners; it is an Outreach Ministry of Holy Disciples Church. Individuals  can volunteer to be tutors and/or facilitators in the program. A criminal background check and a Safe Environment Training Class is required of volunteers over the age of 18. For more information, click here.

This specialized ministry unites our senior high youth and young adults with like-minded individuals in service to people in need. The group works on week-long service projects that renew relationships and bring hope. Destinations in recent years included Yakima, Skagit Valley, Bellingham, Seattle, and even Tacoma - our own back yard!  In the summer of 2017 two separate trips were offered: one week with the Seafarers Ministry in Seattle, and a second trip to Tijuana Mexico with friends from St. Louise in Bellevue. Adult volunteers serve as facilitators, role models, and chaperones. A criminal background check and a Safe Environment Training Class is required of volunteers over the age of 18.

These volunteers gather, package, and help distribute food to families and individuals who come to the Food Bank for assistance. Especially needed are volunteers for early morning and late evening pick up of donations from stores and fast food resturantsThe Food Bank is located on the campus of Holy Disciples and is open Mondays and Fridays 10:00AM—1:30PM and on Wednesdays 2:00PM—6:00PM .  Volunteer positions are open to all.

Each month members of our parish provide a Friday evening meal at the Armory for the homeless in our area. The food dishes are prepared at home and served on site. This ministry is especially well suited for family involvement.

Every now and again a parish family experiences turmoil because of an accident or sudden illness. The volunteers of Martha's Ministry provide home-cooked meals that can be served right away or put into the freezer for use on another day. Words cannot describe the love and support families feel when fellow parishioners bring supper right to their table.
